Chisenhale Gallery in London is currently displaying some 'work' by Ukraine-born 'artist' Nathalia Edenmont. Based in Sweden, the 'artist' is causing something of a stir amongst pro-animal advocates (to say the least) because she kills a variety of animals and then photographs the freshly slain victims in various grotesque poses.
The galleries currently displaying her twisted idea of 'art' have all come out in defence of the 'work' in the name of artistic freedom. However, questions about the legality of the killings have been raised (Swedish law states that a vet must be present when animals are killed to ensure 'welfare' standards are met). Whether the courts decide that this absurd excuse for art is legal or not, exhibitors of Edenmont's 'work' should be actively discouraged from displaying the horrific pictures of death and the public must be discouraged from paying to see this apparent attempt to highlight hypocrisies in human beliefs (one of the exhibitors pointed to the hypocrisy of caring for the victims of art used in the 'beautiful' photographs while happily wearing the skins of farm animals or eating the flesh of animals).
There are many perceptions of what art should be. Now is the time to ensure that future art is free of cruelty to animals. Help put an end to the twisted works of Edenmont and send a clear message to galleries who support such cruelty - the public will not tolerate cruelty to animals. Galleries rely heavily on cash from the public, be sure to mention that any adverse publicity will lead to the public staying away and may affect future funding applications.
